Beaver Scouts
Beaver Scouts are the youngest scouts in our Scout Group. They are boys and girls whose ages range from 6 to 8 years. Once a Beaver Scout reaches the age of 9 they move up to Cubs, the next section. The Beaver Section is all about fun. Beavers go on plenty of activities organised by both Limerick Scout County and the Group. These include the Beavers Skills Day, the Beavers Christmas Trip, the Group Camp and various other fun events.
While we are having fun we still get to play with others so that we know how to get along with other people. Beaver Scouts are organised into small groups called Lodges. We have 4 lodges with around 5-6 beavers in each. Each lodge has a 'Lodge Leader' and a different name; Foxes, Horses, Sharks and Squirrels. The Lodge Leader is generally an older Beaver, both the Lodge Leader and lodge name are chosen by the lodge. The Lodges are collected together in what we call a colony. We also take on tasks so that we find out about responsibility. We learn lots of new skills by doing them but the most important thing is that we do it with other people, especially our friends.
Beaver Scouts are given a say in what is happening in the programme. This is done through review games and at Lodge gatherings (called Log Chews). Log Chews are led by the Leaders (also known as "Elders") but they exist so as to get the opinions of the Beaver Scouts and to take account of these opinions when making decisions for the future.
