Group History

St Paul's Scout Group was founded in 1981. In the early years, notable people involved included Declan Slemon and Maurice English. Leaders in the late 1990's included Lily Powell with her husband, Mike, as the Group Leader. Unfortunately around 1999 the group closed for three years but was eventually restarted in 2002 with a lot of new leaders. After the reopening a lot of work was done refurbishing and redecorating the hall.

By 2005 various new leaders had come into the group with others remaining and it was now comprised of people like Declan Slemon (Group leader), Eoghan Deegan (Chairman), Jennifer Haugh (Secretary), Jenny Sparling (Treasurer), Chriss Reidy (QM), Mags O'Riordan (SL), Colm Slevin (CL), Theresa Kiely (ACL), Paula Byrne (ACL), Anita Brosnan (BL), Mags Tyrrell (ABL), George Fitzpatrick (ABL), Maurice English (Trainer), Marie Keogh and Alan McMahon.

During the year of 2005, Declan finished as Group Leader and Colm took over. Between 2006 and 2007 the kayaking programme and a venture section were both introduced.

In 2009 Thersea become Group Leader until 2012 when Colm took over again.

At the beginning of 2011 the group was introduced to Scouting Ireland's One Programme. The programmes principle idea is that each section of Scouting delivers their programme in a similar way. Small groups are present in all Sections. The youth members handbooks are designed to appeal to the age range of each section by presenting the concepts to young people in appropriate language and images.
