Group Camp 2018
The St. Pauls Scout Group Camp took place at Castleconnell Campsite from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th June. The weather over the weekend was fabulous and this really added to the occasion.
In all 50 youth members (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers) from the Scout Group took part in the camp with 20 leaders involved in the various activities.
The weekend began on Friday evening when the campsite was constructed. All sleeping tents were pitched, as were the group tents. The Wolf Patrol built the campsite they will build at the Phoenix competition in August. With the gate and zip-wire (with the fab platform the Venturers built) in place we were ready to go.
Flag up on Saturday morning heralded the start of a busy day. From morning to late afternoon all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers took part in a combination of water based and land based activities. On the water there was kayaking, canoeing and rafting. Each group had to construct their own raft and race it against another groups raft. The land activities comprised of paracord bracelets, shelter building, bamboo towers and other fun activities.
In the evening Cubs and Scouts built an Hour Glass Tower and Venturers built a Monkey Bridge and everyone had a turn on the Zip Wire. Before the campfire, we had face painting and we all dressed-up in our circus themed costumes. We had a joint campfire with the Bruff Scouts and the Venturers entertained us very well.
No one had any problem sleeping on Saturday night. It had been some day…
Sunday’s activities included First Aid Training Scenarios, Rocket Launching, using the Zip Wire and climbing the Hour Glass tower and Monkey Bridge. Then it was site take down for everyone.
The Group Camp was a great success and a credit to all the Leaders, Venturers and other youth members who make it all work.
