Scouts

Scouts range from 12 to 15 years of age. At the age of 16 Scouts move up to Ventures, the next section where they are given more responsibility for their events. The section is divided in to groups called patrols with 8 Scouts in each. Each patrol has a Patrol Leader (PL) who is in charge of the patrol. To help the Patrol Leader an Assistant Patrol Leader (APL) is also assigned. After that there are 2 Quartermasters, 2 Chiefs, a Scribe and lastly a First Aider.

Summer Camp

As scouting started out of the Scout section it stands to reason that we have some serious fun in Scouts. The spirit of adventure is what drives the Scout section to challenge you to try new things, encourage Scouts to try to be more responsible, try more things as a team and even more leadership. We see this on events like Sionnachs and MPCs, Section Summer Camp, Group Camp, Scout Liffey Descent and the Phoenix Challenge (Shield).

People in the Scout age section have a better idea of what they want and like so it stands to reason that each Scout section gets its identity from the members in the group and it is a chance for them to express that identity. This identity is shaped by the Scout Promise and Law that teaches crucial values in taking on life's challenges. These include loyalty, trustworthy, respect and bravery to name a few.

Most activities are done in patrols and each patrol will make decisions for itself, review its own progress, and decide on its own future plans. The Patrol Leader, with the Assistant Patrol Leader, has overall responsibility for the patrol and should encourage each Scout to take on more responsibility as they progress over time.

On my honour
I promise that I will do my best,
to do my duty to God,
to serve my community,
to help other people and
to live by the Scout Law.
The Scout Law:
Scouts are:
Friendly: They always say Hello, Please and Thank You!
Kind: They work hard and help their family and friends.
Honest: They always tell the truth.
Trusted: They always keep their word.
Respectful: They care for themselves and for others.
Brave: They stand up for right and good.
The Scout Prayer:
Dearest God,
Teach me to be generous,
Teach me to love and serve as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labour and to look for no reward;
Save that of knowing that I do Thy Holy Will.
Amen.
